On August 18, 2007 an incredible storm dropped record rainfall across a most of Southeastern Minnesota, Western Wisconsin, and Northern Iowa. According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, over 14,000 square miles received at least 4 inches of rain. Much of the area received significantly more including an astounding official total of 15.10 inches in Hokah, smashing the Minnesota 24 hour rainfall record of 10.84 inches. There were reports of 17+ inches in other areas. The radar image of this monster storm may be watched here.

Sadly the result was massive flash-flooding taking 7 lives and millions of dollars of public infrastructure and private property. The towns of Stockton, Elba, Minnesota City, and Rushford were particularly hard hit with local damage across the 6 county area. See the flood page from the National Weather Service. It is unclear what the effects will be to the local trout fisheries. There were significant losses at the Crystal Springs Hatchery (See the story from the Rochester Post Bulletin). Many streams also have been altered ( see the story here).
